How to start a home yoga practice (that actually continues)

The 15-minute minimum

Home practice fails on ambition, not ability: a planned 60-minute session loses to a spontaneous chair. The framework that works is 15 minutes — three rounds of cat-cow, two standing poses, a floor pose, savasana — done daily. The duration can grow; the daily habit cannot shrink below fifteen without the practice dissolving.

The mat placement trick

Leave the mat unrolled where you will see it. The environmental cue outperforms motivation: a visible mat converts idle minutes into practice, while a stored mat converts plans into plans. Roll it only for travel; live with the corner of it showing.

Use the pose library as the curriculum

Pick one pose family per week from this site — standing poses first — and build the 15 minutes around its entries. Reading the cues before practicing (instead of during) fixes alignment faster than any mirror, and the contraindications pages are the safety briefing most home practices skip.
